Panthers Roll Over Dordt By 37 Points in 101-64 Victory

Haines breaks the programs record for the highest shooting percentage in a single game

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport wins their fourth straight game while blowing out the Defenders of Dordt College. The Panthers poured in their second straight game of scoring 100 or more points, they scored 101 and held the Defenders to 64. Junior transfer Javon Haines had himself an incredible ball game, he scored 28 points while shooting 11/12 from the field. He broke the programs record for highest shooting percentage in a game, he shot 91.7% from the field. The original record was set by Nathan Cox in 2008. Cox went 10/11 (90.9%) against Calumet College.
 
Davenport came out of the gates red hot as they scored ten straight points in the opening two minutes of play. The Panthers continued to convert on the offensive end over the first nine minutes of the game. Davenport led 24-9 after a three ball by freshman Robbie Bramhill with 11:26 left in the first half. The largest lead of the first half was 21 points after a triple by Kevin Rich with 8:29 left in the half. Haines was red hot as he scored 20 points on 8/8 shooting during the first half. The Panthers defense was stifling in the first half as they held the Defenders to 1/13 from the three-point line. Davenport went into half leading 18 points with a score of 46-28.
 
The second half saw both teams trading some buckets for the opening seven minutes of play. The score was 67-48 with 12:49 left in the game, when the Panthers went on a run to blow this game open. Over the next five minutes and 46 seconds Davenport went on an 18-3 run, capped off by a trey ball from Khadim Dieng with 7:03 left on the clock. Nick Gamble showed his offensive capabilities in the second half as he scored 14 points on 5/9 from the field. Ten different players scored in the second half for Davenport and the team assisted on 14 of the 20 made field goals during the half.
 
Davenport had four players lead the way in the scoring category. Dieng recorded a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Gamble had 16 points, seven assists, four blocks and three steals. Rich had 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. Haines led the way for DU with 28 points on 11/12 shooting from the field and dished out seven assists.
 
The Panthers have a quick turn-around as they travel to Indiana University East to take on the Red Wolves on Monday night. The game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time in Richmond, Indiana.
