GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers have now won five straight conference games by 11 or more points, improving to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play. This in turn gave the Panthers many more possessions of the basketball throughout the game.
Senior
Kevin Rich and junior
Javon Haines carried the Panthers through the first half of basketball. The two combined for 25 points and shot 11/19 from the field. The rest of the team only score 16 combined points and shot 6/19 from the field. Davenport dictated the tempo of play through the opening half, forcing Concordia into 13 turnovers. Concordia University shot 46.8% from the field during the half, which was better than the Panthers 44.7%. However, the lack of possessions Concordia had compared to the number Davenport had was the reason DU went into half leading 41-31.
Again in the second half the duo of Rich and Haines led the Panthers in scoring, this time their shooting percentage between the two of them took a slight dip compared to the first half. Concordia took better care of the ball in the second half, only turning it over five times. However, the Panthers shook them up and held them to 1/10 shooting from three during the half.
Both Rich and Haines each had 22 points to lead the Panthers in scoring. Rich, who turned 23 years old today, was 4/9 from three and grabbed six rebounds to go along with his 22 points. Haines grabbed eight rebounds and also dished out six assists to go along with his 22 points.
Dawid Czerniawski and
Robbie Bramhill also contributed a good deal tonight. Czerniawski helped DU win the war on the glass as he snagged eight rebounds during his 23 minutes of play. Bramhill, who is leading the team in three-point percentage, was 3/6 from three and brought down seven rebounds off the bench.
