GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's basketball team moved to 22-5 overall and 18-2 in the WHAC with a 71-49 win at Aquinas on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers had their own version of Dennis Rodman on the court in the form of junior forward
Molly Babbs. She set the school record with 19 rebounds (5 offensive) breaking the record of Karen Rugless (18) set on Feb. 24, 2003 at Rochester College. Babbs helped the Panthers control the glass with a 50-27 advantage.
The Panthers trailed 16-14 after the first quarter but outscored the Saints, 21-16, in the second quarter to take a 35-32 lead into the locker room. It was all Davenport in the second half as they kept the Saints to single digits in the third and fourth quarter outscoring them 36-17. The Saints shot just 20 percent (6-of-30) in the second half while DU shot 40.5 percent (15-of-37).
Senior
Alex Law led the Panthers with 16 points making 6-of-10 from the floor (3-of-4 3FG's). Freshman
Amanda Merz scored seven points and added seven rebounds. Sophomore
Momo Neal was the other player for DU in double figures with 10 points, three assists and three steals. Davenport maintains a one-game lead in the WHAC standings after Lawrence Tech's win over Indiana Tech.
