Box Score DEARBORN, Mich. - The men's Division I hockey program reached 30 wins for the third time with a 5-1 win over Rochester College in the first round of the GLCHL Playoffs on Friday night. The fifth-ranked Panthers won for the 21st straight game and after four straight one-goal wins had a little easier time against the Warriors.
Davenport took a 2-0 lead after one period where they owned an 11-7 edge in shots on goal.
Alex Hulford notched his 16th goal of the season at 5:25 from
Cody Walsh and
Luke McCarthy.
Cameron Dimmitt scored the game-winning goal at 11:16 from
Chris Eckler and Walsh, his 17th marker of the season.
Jordan Simmonds scored on the power play at 4:00 of the second for his 17th overall goal, assists coming from Eckler and Walsh.
Alyx Fonseca scored his ninth of the campaign to make it 4-0 at the 1:03 mark of the third period.
Brandon Mezuk broke up the shutout by
Matt Kaludis at 7:50 of the third from Michael Lasky. Simmonds second of the night ended the scoring at 12:05 from
Everett Thompson. Kaludis stopped 21-of-22 shots for the Panthers. Davenport fired 36 shots at Zakk Olvin who stopped 31. The Panthers will skate against Western Michigan on Saturday in the GLCHL semifinals at 5 p.m.
