DEARBORN, Mich. - The men's Division I hockey team punched its ticket to the GLCHL Tournament final on Sunday at 2 p.m. with a 6-2 win over Western Michigan. The Panthers and Stallions played a tight series recently, but Davenport left little doubt in this one from the start.
They scored the first five goals of the game and improved to 31-2-0-1 this season.
Cameron Dimmitt had the only goal of the first period at 1:08 from
Matt Ogden and
Aaron Beally.
The Panthers tallied four goals in the middle stanza and led 5-0 after 40 minutes. Ogden scored at 5:46 from
Cody Walsh and
Chris Eckler.
Jordan Simmonds scored 2:01 later from
Everett Thompson. Ogden's second of the game at 12:03 came from Dimmitt and Eckler.
Travis White closed out the period at 19:38 from Simmonds and
Walker Aurand.
WMU scored the first two goals of the third from Brandon Grillo and Zach Mudge. Simmonds' second goal of the game at 12:43 ended the scoring from Thompson and White.
Clayton Brown stopped 27-of-29 shots in the win for Davenport.
