HUDSONVILLE, Mich. - The men's Division II hockey team finished their regular season on Saturday night with a 5-2 loss at Grand Valley State. The Panthers struggled early this season, but turned it on in the second half of the season to finish 20-9 and place themselves third in the Central Region.
Grand Valley State and Davenport split the weekend series but the Lakers had the late push in this one scoring the final three goals. Davenport opened up 1:03 into the contest with
Kevin Noble's second goal of the season from
Trevor Murray and Alex Stewart. The Lakers tied it up at 5:11 of the second period as Corbin Rainey beat
Devin Rosema with assists from Lucas Little and Alex Ostrowski.
Ostrowski gave GVSU a 2-1 lead at 13:56 of the second stanza from Thomas Luzynski and Nicholas Schultz. Zac Bodziak scored on the power play at 17:51 for his 26th goal of the season with an assist by
Blake Damerow.
Schultz scored the game-winning goal at 19:34 of the second from Ostrowski and Rainey. Luzynski scored at 1:29 of the third and Rainey added another goal at 11:25. The Lakers had 36 shots on goal as Rosema stopped 32 pucks. Jiri Aberle stopped 24-of-26 shots for the Lakers.
