BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - The Davenport men's lacrosse team used a big fourth quarter to pull out a 10-9 win on Sunday against Siena Heights at Detroit Country Day's Fieldhouse in the season opener. DU scored five times in the fourth quarter to turn a 7-5 deficit into a 10-7 lead and then held on as the Saints scored twice to pull within one. No one scored in the final 2:48 of the game as the Panthers improved to 1-0.
Jon Nykamp and
Jimmy Fata scored a pair of man-up goals to extend the lead to 9-7. Tom Kreitzer and Shane Lewandowski made things very interesting but in the end the Panthers tightened up the defense for a one-goal victory. The shots on goal were 22-17 in favor of Davenport. The Saints had a huge edge in face-offs 14-7 but went just 1-for-10 in man-up opportunities.
Logan Poe made eight saves in the win for DU.
Paul Schalau scored four goals on seven shots for Davenport.

Joe Lopez also scored for the Panthers. Fata led the team with seven ground balls and caused three turnovers.
