CLERMONT, Fla. - The Panthers offense powered their sweep Monday on their spring trip as they ran their win streak to five games and upped their overall record to 7-2. DU totaled 22 runs scored and recorded nine extra-base hits as DU took out Grace College and Bethel College.
The Panthers battled the Grace College Lancers in their first game of the day. DU saw a 1-0 deficit after the first inning as Grace knocked a double to left center that gave them the early edge. The Lancers held the lead over DU until the Panthers responded with a run in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game.
Nicole Vitale tied the game for the Panthers when she singled in
Alyssa Koziol and sparked the Panthers offense that would then come alive.
Haley Obetts started off a big fifth inning for DU with a double, and saw
Sarah Wallick replace her as a pinch runner. Following a
Sarah Schneidenbach base-on-balls, both Wallick and Schneidenbach advanced to third before
Carli SanMillan knocked in a Wallick on a sacrifice squeeze bunt. This sparked a three-run fifth inning.
Lindsay Tasma then gave DU a 9-1 lead with a solo home run in the top of the sixth as they went on to a 8-2 win over the Lancers.SanMillan had a 2-for-4 game with one RBI and two runs scored while
Aby Brambila went 2-for-3 for the game with three RBI.
Emily Maves (4-1) took the victory in the cirlce for DU with six innings pitched, 11 strike outs, and four hits allowed.
Alyssa Eastman relieved Maves for a scoreless seventh inning.
The second game of the day for DU saw the Panthers continue their offensive surge on their way to a 14-2 win over the Pilots. The Panthers took a commanding lead over Bethe College early as they scored four runs in each of the first two innings.
Alyssa Eastman sparked the scoring for DU with an RBI single in the first and added a two-run blast to left center in the second inning as the Panthers took over the game from the beginning.
The Lancers scored a run in the first and added an unearned run in the fifth, but Eastman (1-1) aided her great performance at the plate with a complete game victory from the circle. She pitched five innings, and allowed one earned run on her way to her first victory of 2016.
