KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The men's Division I hockey team used a strong second period to post a 4-3 win at Western Michigan on Friday for their 18th straight win. The Panthers remained undefeated on the road in regulation
(13-0) but needed a four-goal middle frame after falling behind 2-0 to the Stallions.
DU (27-2-0-1) saw Cole Kapovich and Jacob Taiariol gave the home team a 2-0 lead midway through the contest. Davenport then turned it on with four goals in a span of seven minutes and 42 seconds.
Alyx Fonseca scored his eighth of the campaign from
Cameron Dimmitt at 11:06 to get DU within a goal.
Winston Hofer scored 2:31 later on a short-handed effort from
Everett Thompson. Hofer scored his fifth of the season and his first SHG.
Chris Eckler gave DU a 3-2 lead at 16:25 from
Alex Hulford and Hofer.
Travis White then made it 4-2 at 18:48 on the power play unassisted. White scored his 16th goal and team-leading seventh power play goal.
Taiariol scored again at 12:09 on the power play from Matt Williams and Richard Zehnal in the third period to make it a one-goal game.
Clayton Brown did not allow another goal to give DU a narrow victory. Brown stopped 34 shots including a dozen in the third improving to 10-2 in net.
