Panthers Win a Pair of STUNT matchups over Alma and MSU

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport STUNT cheerleading team hosted Alma and Michigan State on Sunday and picked up wins against both schools. The Panthers won 17-12 over the Scots and the difference was a strong last quarter where they outscored them 8-4 after holding on to a 9-8 lead after jumps and tumbling. The team/combination routine in the fourth pushed them over the top.

The Panthers were even stronger in the next matchup against the Spartans and rolled to a 21-4 win. The first quarter was a 4-1 lead for DU in partner stunts. The Panthers took all four points in the second quarter of pyramids and baskets. It was a 4-1 split in the third quarter of jumps and tumbling and finished off with 9-2 in team routine.

"I'm very proud of the competitiveness, athleticism, and sportsmanship that was showcased by the team today at our first STUNT game(s) of the season. Coming off of a National Championship title in 2015, we have set a lot of expectations right out of the gate. Every athlete stepped up in a positive way and I am so excited to where this drive leads them this season." - Head Coach Celia Allen-Hames

"As defending D2 National Champions in 2015, we start this season with a target on our back. Our game plan was simply to take the mat and fight for a perfect routine every time. The athletes rose to the occasion and fought hard in every quarter. I am very proud of their performances during the first games but we are looking forward to getting better for the next." - Assisant Coach Amber Gniewek
