WYOMING, Mich. – The Davenport baseball team picked up a pair of wins to open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Tuesday against Aquinas College. The Panthers hit four home runs in game one and got a complete game from
Corey Murphy in a 13-3 win. Davenport then went nine innings in game two as
Travis Bolin,
Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle and
Zack Sardellitti hit home runs and
Jonathan Cheshire went four relief innings to get the win in a 6-5 decision.
The No. 22 Panthers improved to 14-7 overall and picked up their fifth and sixth straight wins over the Saints. DU struck with three runs in the top of the first in game one as
Matt Priebe homered to right center scoring Sardellitti and Larkin-Guilfoyle. The Saints got two runs back in the third inning on a Mike Priest RBI single and a wild pitch from Murphy. The Panthers responded with five runs in the top of the fourth to take an 8-2 lead.

Austin Brandt and Larkin-Guilfoyle had a RBI groundout.
Ben Walton hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth for Aquinas after Seymour had a sacrifice fly in the top of the inning. Davenport added four runs in the top of the seventh as Priebe had a two-run blast to left center scoring Bolin. Cable hit a solo shot to left and J.P. North delivered a sacrifice fly scoring Sobieski with the final run. Priebe finished with five RBI and three runs scored. Murphy improved to 4-0 on the mound allowing five hits and three earned runs. He walked two and struck out seven. Bryan Mitzner took the loss (0-3) going five innings and allowing nine hits and seven earned runs.
Davenport again jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning in game two. Larkin-Guilfoyle, Bolin and Sardellitti hit back-to-back-to-back home runs off Aquinas starter Kameron Joostbems. DU scored one more in the top of the second to lead 4-0. Seymour scored on a throwing error and then the Saints scored the next four runs to tie it up after four innings.
Bryan Saucedo was replaced after the fourth and relieved by
Alex Schuiling.
The Panthers regained the lead 5-4 in the top of the fifth as Priebe hit a sacrifice fly which scored Bolin.
Jonathan Cheshire came into the game in the bottom of the sixth and gave up the tying run. Michael Oshinski collected his second RBI single of the game for the Saints.
The nightcap went into the ninth inning when Davenport took a 6-5 lead. Alex Hart took the mound as the fourth pitcher of the game for Aquinas. Sardellitti doubled to center and Brandt ran at second. Jack Garthe replaced Hart on the bump and struck out Priebe. Cable grounded out to first moving Brandt to third with two outs. Sobieski delivered the clutch game-winning hit and Cheshire took the ball in the ninth. He improved to 2-1 by stranding a runner at second after giving up a lead-off single to Oshinski. Cheshire allowed three hits and walked one with two strikeouts. Bolin and Larkin-Guilfoyle each had three hits in game two.
