Larocque and Riley Score Seven Goals in 22-6 win over Western Michigan

DU improved to 7-0 this season in driving rain at DU Turf Field

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's lacrosse team cruised to a 22-6 win over Western Michigan on Wednesday night in a driving rain to improve to 7-0 this season. The matchup between unbeaten teams was Davenport's for the taking as they scored six goals in the first quarter and led 6-0 after 15 minutes. Jarred Riley scored three of his seven goals in the first quarter and assisted on another.

Davenport led 8-0 early in the second quarter after goals by Jimmy Fata (man-up) and Bryan Larocque. David Gushee scored a man-up goal at 8:26 of the second to end the run. DU scored the next four goals to lead 12-1 with less than a minute left until halftime. WMU scored the last goal of the quarter and opened up the third quarter with a goal by Mike Petrey. Larocque and Riley (man-up) scored midway through the quarter for a 14-3 lead.

Paul Schalau and Fata ended the third quarter with goals for a 17-4 lead heading into the final quarter. Larocque scored three times in the fourth and assisted on another to finish with seven goals. Joe Lopez and Riley also scored in the final quarter.

The Panthers had 50 total shots with 32 shots on goal. The Broncos had 33 shots with 15 shots on net. WMU went 10-of-15 and DU went 19-of-24 on clear attempts. DU also had 35 ground balls compared to 22 for Western Michigan. The Panthers held a 17-15 edge in face-offs.

Riley finished with 11 points and Larocque had 10 points. Fata collected eight ground balls and caused a turnover. Jimmy DeJaeger won 17-of-32 in the circle and had four ground balls. Lopez finished with three goals and three ground balls. Nick Mulcahy caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls. Logan Poe had five ground balls and made nine saves in the contest.
