ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The No. 1 Davenport Panthers (NAIA poll) improved to 2-0 overall with a 16-10 win at Robert Morris on Friday night behind a second half that saw Davenport outscore the Eagles 7-2. The first quarter saw Davenport hold a 6-3 lead. The Panthers were down 2-1 but then scored three goals straight including a man-up goal by
Jarred Riley.
Joe Lopez also scored twice in the first quarter.
The Panthers held a 9-8 lead heading into halftime.
Devon Benson scored the first two goals of the second quarter including a man-up goal at 6:52 from
Paul Schalau. Riley gave Davenport a 9-5 lead with 5:59 left in the quarter but Robert Morris scored the last three goals of the quarter.
Davenport played a great second half defensively allowing just one goal in each quarter. Schalau scored three goals in the second half for DU. Benson also added a goal in the fourth assisted by Riley.
Jon Nykamp had a goal and assist in the fourth for the Panthers.
The Panthers had 34 shots on goal compared to 19 for the Eagles. Robert Morris had 18 turnovers compared to nine for the Panthers. Davenport also was 2-of-4 in extra-man opportunities while RMU was 0-of-2.
