BENSENVILLE, Ill. - The Davenport men's Division I hockey team continued their magical season on Sunday night with a 5-1 win over defending national champion Central Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the 2016 ACHA Division I Tournament. The Bronchos scored the only goal in the first period as Trevor Leblanc put Davenport down 1-0 at 8:58 from Rylan Duley.
The Panthers then started to turn it on in the second period with a pair of goals.
Alyx Fonseca tied the game at 8:12 unassisted. He skated to the circle on the left side of goaltender Alex Henry and beat him to the far post.
Everett Thompson was in the right place at the right time on what would be the game-winning goal at 16:11.
Aaron Beally fired a shot that bounced hard off the boards and right to the stick of Thompson who was streaking toward the net and scored into an open net.
Alex Hulford made it 3-1 at 2:23 from
Winston Hofer and Thompson.
Travis White made it 4-1 at 8:26 from
Cody Walsh.
Cameron Dimmitt added an empty-net goal at 18:20 for the game's final goal.
Matt Kaludis had a solid night in net moving to 20-2 this season. He made 31 saves on the night. DU went 0-of-3 on the power play while Central Oklahoma was 0-of-4.Â
The Panthers picked up their 33rd win this season and will play No. 3 Lindenwood in the semifinals on Monday at 9 p.m. eastern time. The teams played earlier this season and split a pair of games.
