FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Panthers finished their regular season Saturday afternoon in a road matchup with No. 4 Indiana Tech. DU fought back from as much as a four-goal deficit to tie the game on a
Brooke Knoll free position shot with 1:59 remaining. The Warriors would answer with the game-winning goal with just 33 seconds left on the clock as DU fell 12-11 and left their 2016 record at 10-2, 9-1.
The first half saw DU fight to a 7-5 halftime deficit. The Panthers saw
Hanna Bush lead the DU offense with three goals while she also assisted on a
Tara Pluger score. DU fought to tie the game 5-5 with 6:50 left in the first half, but the Warriors answered with the final two goals of the period to take a two-goal lead to the break.
Indiana Tech extended its lead to four, 9-5, as they tallied a pair of quick scores to begin the second half. The Panthers remained poised as Knoll and
Amber Livingston stepped up to lead the DU comeback. Livingston and Knoll each tallied three second half scores to help the Panthers tie the game, 11-11, with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
The DU defense responded by recording 29 ground balls for the game while they also forced four Warrior turnovers. Defenders
Madison Francis and
Maeve Sweeney each totaled six ground balls while senior
Sydney Gray recorded five in her first career start in goal. Gray also recorded a DU season-high 15 saves to take the decision. The DU comeback came up just short, but the Panthers clinched their third straight WHAC Regular Season Championship.
Junior midfielder
Hanna Bush recorded three goals and one assist for the game. She hit the 100-point milestone with this effort and now sits at 102 career points while also leading the team in scoring with 63 points (24g, 39a).
