Panthers Take Out Gray Wolves 21-5 for Seventh Straight Win

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.Ā  – DU fought through snow showers Saturday afternoon to earn their seventh straight win following a 21-5 victory over Lourdes University.

The Panthers dominated play from the beginning as they stormed out to an 8-1 lead. Sara Kuzava scored the first goal of the game at 28:51 and Brooke Knoll followed with the next three DU scores. The Panthers would add to this lead as they went on to carry a 12-4 halftime advantage by outshooting the Gray Wolves 16-to-11 and 13-to-7 on goal. Jessica Lemcke and Hanna Bush each totaled a pair of scores to aid the Panther attach and Bush added four assists as DU carried an eight-goal lead.

DU quickly added to its lead in the second half with a goal by Lemcke just 21 seconds into the period. Tara Pluger and Amber Livingston would find the back of the net for the Panthers while Hannah Maroe tallied a pair of scores as DU extended its lead to double digits. Knoll went on to lead DU with five goals. Lemcke totaled four scores while Kuzava recorded three scores. Bush went on to total seven points on three goals and four assists.

The Panther defense was strong all game long as they held the Gray Wolves in check. DU recorded 39 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers. Pluger led the DU defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Lemcke totaled seven ground balls while Sydney Gray recorded two ground balls and caused two turnovers for the Panthers. DU held the slight edge in draw controls (15-13) with Maroe leading the Panthers with four.

Samantha Powers earned the victory in goal for DU with three saves in 30 minutes. Alex Yates replaced Powers at the break and recorded two saves in 30 minutes played. Ā
