Panthers Eliminated from WHAC Tournament by Indiana Tech

The Warriors' Tyler Wells threw a complete-game in 5-2 decision

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team fell 5-2 to Indiana Tech on Wednesday afternoon in the WHAC Tournament and were eliminated behind a complete-game performance by Tyler Wells of the Warriors. Wells tossed his second complete game of the season and allowed seven hits and no runs over the final six innings. Wells pitched to contact with one walk and one strikeout and only one of DU's two runs was earned.

Bryan Saucedo (5-5) took the loss for Davenport as he was lifted in the fifth inning after giving up the go-ahead runs on a double by Tighe Koehring. Corey Murphy kept his team in the game with 3.1 innings of one-hit ball and allowed no runs with two strikeouts. Jonathan Cheshire gave up an unearned run in the ninth as Indiana Tech padded their lead. The start looked promising as Connor Seymour led off the bottom of the first with a home run to left. It was his second of the season. The Panthers also scored once in the third to take a 2-1 lead. Back-to-back errors put runners on the corners and then a double play scored a run for DU.

Peyton Newsom had a solo home run in the top of the second and another RBI on a groundout in the fourth. Koehring's two-run double in the fifth gave Indiana Tech a 4-2 lead. The Warriors also scored on a throwing error at the plate on a force out in the ninth.
