Box Score 2 CHICAGO, Ill. – Junior outside hitter
Krissy Dill sparked an opening day sweep for DU as she set the single-game record for kills by notching 25 in the 3-2 win over the University of Saint Fraincis (Ill.) as DU started its 2016 campaign 2-0. The Panthers followed their opening comeback win over the Fighting Saints with a 3-0 win over Roosevelt to give DU a perfect start to its 2016 season.
The Panthers dropped its first set against Saint Francis before splitting the next two to leave DU staring at a 2-1 deficit heading into set four. The Panthers would take a set four by opening a six-point run to pull away from a narrow 8-7 edge on their way to a 25-20 match victory. The Panthers had to fight back from a 7-6 deficit in set five to fight to a 15-13 win as a pair of kills from Dill helped secure the victory.
Izzy Huntington contributed with 10 kills to add to the DU attack while
Sydney Tracer recorded 36 assists. Dill added to her dominant performance offensively with 15 digs with
Morgan Torres contributing 12.
Game two saw DU control the game from the opening set. The Panthers swept Roosevelt 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 behind eight kills from
Carly Nichols,
Izzy Huntington and
Ashley VanderHorst.
Sydney Tracer and
Sami White each tallied 15 assists while
Morgan Torres led the defense with seven digs.
The Panthers will finish their opening weekend tomorrow (8/27) with matches against No. 6 Midland and No. 7 Georgetown College in Palo Heights, Illinois hosted by Trinity College.
