GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The early season success continued on Saturday for the women's soccer team as they defeated Saint Xavier 2-0 in a rain-soaked match at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Panthers improved to 5-0-1 on the season and have shown great strides after winning just six matches a season ago.
Katherine Steiner scored her fourth goal of the season in the 20th minute. Steiner chipped a ball over the head of goalkeeper Carly Bledsoe from around the 18-yard line after a great pass from
Shameeka Fishley.
The Panthers added an insurance goal in the 56th minute as
Juli Knapp delivered a corner kick into the box and
Allison Luurtsema headed it home. It was her first goal as a Panther and concluded the scoring at 2-0.
Saint Xavier did not register a shot on goal for the match compared to 11 for the Panthers. The final shot total was 23-2 in favor of DU.Â
