GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's soccer team has won five straight in shutout fashion having not allowed a goal in 455 minutes since a 1-1 tie against Rio Grande on August 25. The Panthers (6-0-1) beat No. 11 Grace (Ind.) in their most impressive win during the five-match win streak on Thursday.
Davenport played most of the first half on Grace's half of the field and registered four shots on goal without getting one past goalkeeper Abby Schue.
Alayna Hilgendorf changed that just 1:22 into the second half with her second goal of the season unassisted. She fired away from right wing around 15 yards out and the ball was deflected off Schue's hand into the net.
The Panthers then continued to pressure the Grace backline and added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute off a free kick.
Juli Knapp took the kick and lofted a pass to
Shameeka Fishley who chipped in over Schue's head from about 10 yards out. Fishley's seventh goal of the season gets her within two of last year's production.
Regan Troff got her first action since August 25 in goal and made one save in the shutout improving to 2-0-1. DU finished with 16 total shots compared to five for the Lancers.
