Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Steiner Nets Two Goals in 3-2 Victory Over Lourdes University

Panthers win seventh straight match while winning first conference game

SYLVANIA, Ohio - The women's soccer team tallied their seventh straight victory and first conference win after defeating Lourdes 3-2 in Sylvania, Ohio. The Panthers improve to 8-0-1 after the victory, and Lourdes fall to 2-4-1.

Davenport started off the game on the wrong foot, as they saw their incredible shutout streak come to an end. Karlie O'Keefe of Lourdes scored her first goal of the season in the tenth minute of the first half. The Panthers saw 575 consecutive minutes without giving up a goal. Sophomore Katherine Steiner would fire back with a goal of her own in the 28th minute. Lacey Chanady sent a long ball over the defense and Steiner out ran the defense, took a touch and slid the ball past the keeper from about 18 yards out. Shortly after Steiner would tally her second goal of the game, as the ball got played forward to Nea-Stina Liljedahl who flicked it to Steiner, she then touched the ball into the back of the net.

The second half started off on a sour note for the Panthers has Karlie O'Keefe scored he second goal of the match to tie the game 2-2. The Panthers would see a spark from defender Allison Luurtsema, as she scored her second goal of the season. Defender Cynthia Konan took a shot on net, the ball got deflected by a defender, then Steiner received the rebound and touched the ball to Luurtsema as she kicked it in for a goal.

Coach Allen had some thoughts after the game. "The grey wolves were a tough opponent and made it very difficult for us today. We had a number of players contribute, despite our below par performance. When you can win while not playing particularly well, you know you have a great team. We had a slow start to the game, which we weren't happy with, but bounced back with intensity and enthusiasm to get the job done. It's a great start to the WHAC, and look forward to Tuesday when we face a huge conference rival in Cornerstone University."

Davenport will take on Cornerstone at 7pm, this Tuesday at the Farmer's Insurance Athletics Complex.
