Panthers Build Bigger Lead in the WHAC with 75-69 Win over No. 20 Indiana Tech

DU is 11-0 in the conference and have three game lead over Indiana Tech and Lawrence Tech

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's basketball team provided further distance between themselves and Indiana Tech in the WHAC standings with a 75-69 win over the No. 20 Warriors on Wednesday night at the DU Student Center. The Panthers spotted the Warriors an 8-0 lead and then trailed 14-4 with less than four minutes played in the opening quarter. Davenport came back to outscore Indiana Tech 16-5 for the remainder of the quarter and built a 20-19 lead after 10 minutes.

The Warriors kept themselves in the game in the second quarter as there was one tie and one lead change. Baylee Rinehart's triple in the corner with 5:01 left in the second quarter gave Indiana Tech a lead they wouldn't give back leading into the locker room up 42-40. Davenport shot the ball well in the quarter going 9-for-18 but did miss all five of their three-pointers.

The third quarter has been big all year for Davenport outscoring their opponents by 150 points and they were plus-5 in this one to regain the lead after 30 minutes at 61-58. DU led by as many as seven points in the third quarter. Neither team scored the ball well in the fourth with their lowest point totals. Davenport's defense held Indiana Tech to 11 points in the final quarter as they shot just 25 percent (4-for-16) and 1-for-10 behind the arc.

Davenport built a 12-point lead at the 4:24 mark of the fourth before the Warriors began to creep back into it. Tech cut the lead down to four with 16 seconds left but Amanda Merz iced it with a pair of free throws. Molly Babbs had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds leading the team in both categories. Mallory Sewell scored 12 points on 6-for-11 shooting in 25 minutes. Emily Severn scored 10 points and grabbed four boards in 25 minutes. Davenport shot 44.1 percent for the game and were 11-for-17 at the foul line.

DU leads Indiana Tech and Lawrence Tech by three games in the WHAC standings at 11-0. It was the 28th straight win by the Panthers over the Warriors who lead the all-time series 29-1.
