Panthers Sweep Lawrence Tech During First Game Of 2017

Vander Meer and Mais combine for 20 kills

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers won their debut match in the Student Center against varsity opponents Lawrence Tech in tonight's competition. The scores were: 25-22, 25-18 and 25-18.

STORY
Eleven of the twelve athletes participated in tonights match. Senior Sean Cox had a hitting percentage of .667, including 6 kills out of 9 total attempts. Sophomore Nathanael Vander Meer hit a second best of .391 with 12 kills, 23 attempts and 3 errors. Sophomore libero Khari Jones gained a match high 11 digs and senior Christopher Croft had 33 assists on the night.
 
When asked about how he feels about the first match of the season coach David Vander Meer said, "The team started out a little nervous but once they settled down they were really able to get into a good rhythm." The Panthers tallied a .408 hitting percentage along with 25 digs and 5 total blocks.
 
This match marks the beginning of the regular season for the Panthers. Davenport Men's volleyball will return to the Student Center January 27th when they play Grand Valley State University in another GMMVC Conference match.
