Panthers sweep Lake Superior State 3-0 at home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport bounced back from a small losing streak and swept the Lakers of Lake Superior State 3-0. The Panthers are now 4-4 in conference play and only have three more home matches remaining for the regular season. Jessica Marvin and Ashley VanderHorst were monsters up front, combining for 17 kills and eight block assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-SET SCORES: 25-21, 25-22, 25-16
-In the first Davenport hit the ball extremely well, recording 17 kills and hitting .267 as a team. Davenport broke away from the Lakers late in the set. The set was tied 12-12 and the Panthers won five of the following six points. Davenport maintained at least a two-point lead for the remainder of the set and Laura Bouwkamp recorded the last kill.
-Davenport had another good stretch in the middle of the second set to pull away from the Lakers. The set was tied 9-9 and Davenport won six of the next eight points to take a 15-11 lead. Lake Superior State made a comeback late, winning three straight points to make it a 24-22 Davenport lead. Charlie Smith and VanderHorst came through in the clutch for the set-winning block assist.
-The Panthers scored four straight points to start the third, then the Lakers came back and scored five straight of their own. Davenport broke the set open after a six point run to take a 23-14 lead. VanderHorst blasted the game-winning kill past the Lakers and was assisted by Sydney Tracer.
