SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Davenport played stellar defense during their 73-58 win over NCAA Division II opponent Azusa Pacific. The Panthers held the Cougars to only 38% shooting from the field and 8.3% from the three-point line. Both
Robbie Bramhill and
Avery Hudson led the way in scoring for Davenport. Bramhill scored 21 points on 7/12 shooting from the field and Hudson scored 18 points, including seven made free throws. This is the Panthers second win against an NCAA Division II school and open GLIAC play on Thursday against Purdue University-Northwest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Bramhill put the team on his back to open the game for Davenport. The Panthers led 16-13 with 9:33 left in the game after a layup by Bramhill. At that point he had 13 of the teams 16 points, hitting two three balls, three free throws and a couple jumpers. Azusa Pacific went on a 12-2 run over the next 2:47 to take a 25-18 lead. Janeau Joubert hit two threes. Davenport shot 7/10 from the three-point line in the half.
After the Cougars scored a layup a couple minutes into the game Davenport scored seven unanswered points to take an 11-point lead. Davenport increased that lead to 16-points following a jumper by Bramhill with 11:58 left on the clock. The Cougars went on a nine point run of their own and the Panthers lead was cut down to seven. Joubert hit a jump shot to end the scoring draught that Davenport had over almost a four-minute stretch. He again scored a few minutes later to give DU a nine-point lead with 6:22 remaining in the game. Over the last three minutes of the game Davenport went 10/13 from the charity stripe to close out the game successfully.
Bramhill led all scorers in the game with his 21 points on 7/12 shooting from the field, he also snagged five rebounds. Hudson filled up the stat sheet, scoring 18 points, grabbing a team high six rebounds, snagging a team high three steals and dishing out three assists. Both Joubert and
Delano Smith added 10 points each.
UP NEXT
The Panthers open up GLIAC play next week against Purdue University-Northwest and Grand Valley State University. Davenport host the Pride on Thursday and the Lakers on Saturday.
