GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's basketball team picked up their third win of the season (3-7) by handing Governors State (3-9) a 63-51 loss on Wednesday (Dec. 13). The Panthers held the Jaguars to 51 points and turned them over 31 times scoring 33 points off those turnovers in the 12-point victory. The 51 points are the fewest allowed this season by Davenport and the 33 turnovers are the most by an opponent in 2017. It was the second straight win over the Jaguars for DU, who improved to 2-0 all-time against Governors State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The first quarter was very close as neither team led by more than three points until
Kelsey Crockett's layup with 18 seconds left made it 14-9 in favor of Davenport. The lead changed hands six times in the first quarter.
-The second quarter saw the Panthers start to pull away as they scored the first seven points to lead 21-9 at the 8:31 mark after a jumper by
Haley Gibbons.
Courtney McInerney put Davenport ahead with their biggest lead of 16 with 5:39 left until halftime. The Jaguars cut back into the lead making it 27-18 with 2:38 until the break on a three-point play by Amber Brooks. The Panthers maintained a nine-point lead going into halftime and got 13 points off their bench in the quarter.
-The third quarter belonged to the Panthers as they increased their lead to 50-29 after a
Taylor Smith layup with 1:43 left. The 20-point lead heading into the fourth quarter allowed the team to use their whole team.
-The Jaguars played hard until the final horn cutting the lead down to 61-49 with 1:23 remaining. Tyisha Worthy made a layup with 1:02 left to get the deficit down to 10.

INSIDE THE BOX
-13 of the team's 15 players scored for DU as Crockett led with 11 points. She went 4-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-2 at the free throw line in 14 minutes.

Jenna Falkenberg finished with eight points (4-of-5 FG) in 15 minutes.

Claire Austin finished with six points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals in 17 minutes.
-Smith added six points on 3-of-4 shooting and had two assists in 15 minutes.
-Davenport shot 26-of-58 from the floor but were just 4-of-19 from the arc and 7-of-14 at the foul line.
-DU set a season-high with 15 steals and had a 18-8 advantage in fast break points.
