Davenport battled it out with fifth ranked Robert Morris in two overtime games

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers hosted fifth ranked Robert Morris for a mini-series over the weekend and the matchup produced two thrilling games. Davenport and the Eagles needed overtime during both games to determine a winner. Unfortunately, the Panthers fell in both of the overtime games against the Eagles. Regardless of the outcome, Davenport played extremely well during both games and look to carry this play into the second half of the season.
 
Game 1 (Friday, December 15)
Final Score: Davenport 1, Robert Morris University 2

Records: Davenport 10-9, Robert Morris 17-5

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Davenport led for the majority of this game. Luke Cowan scored in the 16th minute of the first period, assisted by Tyler Layle. The Panthers held Robert Morris scoreless throughout the first and second period.
-In the final period, the Eagles tied the game up 1-1 during the sixth minute.
-Robert Morris ended the game with a game winning goal 61 seconds into the overtime period.
-Cowan scored the lone DU goal.
-Layle recorded the only DU assist.
-Jason Rhynold spent the whole game in net and had 31 saves.

Game 2 (Saturday, December 16)
Final Score: Davenport 2, Robert Morris University 3

Records: Davenport 10-10, Robert Morris 18-5

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Davenport exploded at the start of the game, scoring two unanswered goals to take a quick 2-0 lead. Marc Anderson scored the first goal of the game in the fifth minute of play, assisted by Alyx Fonseca. Scoring less than two minutes later was Chris Corgan, assisted by Ian Thompson. Robert Morris snuck in a goal late in the period to cut the lead down to one goal heading into the second period.
-The Eagles tied the game up during the second period.
-During the third period neither team could break the tie, an overtime period was needed to determine a winner.
-Robert Morris scored 2:28 into the overtime period to win their second game against DU on the weekend.
-Both Anderson and Corgan scored one goal.
-Fonseca and I. Thompson each had one assist.
-Nate Ferris played all 62:28 in goal and recorded 28 saves.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers will be back on the ice on January 13 and 14 against the University at Buffalo for a home mini-series.
