Arkansas State defeated Davenport 33-19 to move to 1-1-1 in the Mid-South Conference on Saturday while Davenport drops to 0-4 in the talented league.
Davenport actually led 19-12 at halftime, but freshman Calvin Gentry tied it up, and then set up Kuda Makuvire for the go-ahead score. Preston Weigel finished off what was an impressive second half for the Red Wolves.
"We had a good day," said ASU Head Coach in a post-match statement Shaun Potgieter. "Being down at the half, we talked and made some adjustments. We reiterated what we had talked about and planned prior to the game such as holding onto the ball at contact. When we held onto the ball, we scored."
Nick Abreus and Zach Young also touched down for Arkansas State. Brock Roper was superb for the Red Wolves and also kicked four conversions.
