BELLEVUE, Neb. – Davenport recorded 10 hits and fell 4-2 in the first game of their opening round tournament in Nebraska. The Panthers were down 4-1 after five innings and were un-able to capitalize on scoring opportunities late in the game. The opposing team of Science & Arts (Okla.) hit two early home runs and had their starting pitcher throw the entire game.

The Drovers had some power in their swing early as they hit two home runs in the opening two innings. Davenport responded in the top of the second inning as Hoge singled up the middle and Bozzo scored from third. The opposing Drovers slowly increased their lead over the next couple innings, holding a 4-1 lead after six innings of play. In the seventh inning Petravicius singled to right field which scored Vasquez and cut the lead to two runs. Davenport had a big time scoring opportunity in the eighth inning that they were un-able to take advantage of. The bases were loaded with no outs and the next three batters couldn't drive any of the runners in. Cheshire kept the Panthers in the game on the mound as he pitched 3.2 innings and gave up no runs while striking out three batters.
Up Next
The Panthers will face the loser of game one in Judson University tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. CDT (10:30 a.m. EST) at the Don Roddy Field. Davenport needs to win out in order to advance to the world series after their loss in game one today.
