ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team has a red-hot pitching staff having allowed two runs in their last five games. The Panthers (38-13, 26-6 WHAC) tossed a pair of shutouts on Wednesday in a critical showdown at Concordia (41-11, 23-8 WHAC) and remain in second place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Cardinals managed just 10 hits and struck out 26 times in the doubleheader dominance.
GAME 1
The Panthers had a balanced attack at the plate pounding out 13 hits against a trio of Cardinal pitchers in a 6-0 win.
Austin Petravicius,
Anthony DiPonio,
Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle,
Jake Bozzo and
Matt Hoge each had two hits in the contest. Larkin-Guilfoyle had a double and pair of RBI and Bozzo also had a double and scored a run.
Grant Wolfram went five innings to get the win improving to 12-1. He allowed three hits with two walks and six strikeouts. He is now tied for the NAIA lead in wins this season.
Caleb Leach followed Wolfram going 1.2 innings and allowing two hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Jonathan Cheshire finished it up in 2.1 innings and allowed a hit with four strikeouts.
GAME 2
Davenport scored twice in the first inning and then added a run in the third and two more in the sixth for the 5-0 win in the nightcap.
Andrew Click got the start and struck out four and allowed no hits in three innings.
Justin Palmbos tossed the fourth inning with one strikeout and got the win (3-3). Krystien Johnson-Batillana went 1.2 innings and allowed two hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Cheshire entered as the fourth pitcher for DU and finished the final 3.1 innings to earn his eighth save. He allowed two hits and struck out three. Larkin-Guilfoyle continued his good day going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Nolan Page went 3-for-4 with a double and home run.
Brian Sobieski went 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI.Â
