Panthers capture fifth straight WHAC Tournament Championship after defeating Madonna twice today

SYLVANIA, Ohio. – Five peat! The Panthers captured their fifth straight WHAC Tournament Championship after sweeping Madonna in two games during day three. In the first game Davenport dominated the Crusaders in a 9-3 win and the second game Obetts hit a walk-off RBI single in extra innings. This is the third time in the last five years that Davenport has double dipped on the third day of the WHAC Tournament.

The offense got jump started in the top of the third inning for Davenport when French doubled to right field and scored Crawford. Later on French stole home and Rowe stole second on the same play to give DU a two run lead. The third run of the inning was scored when Flores flied out to center field and Rowe tagged up on third before running to home plate. In the fourth inning Obetts helped extend the lead with a double to center field that scored Allen. Madonna scored one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to cut the lead to three runs. Davenport strung together another three runs in the top of the seventh inning to give Teunissen a nice cushion heading into the final three outs. Teunissen struck out the first batter, walked the second, got the third to fly out and the fourth grounded out to Tasma at third base to end the game.

In the second game the pitching of Erin Combs and Maves was stifling for the opposing batters. There were only five runs given up for the game and they happened in three innings. The Crusaders jumped on top of the Panthers early, scoring two runs in the opening inning. Maves settled in quickly after the first inning, only giving up five hits and no runs for the remainder of the game. The Panthers tied up the game in the third inning when Eastman singled to left field, scoring French and Crawford. Both pitchers stepped it up a notch until the extra inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning, with two outs, Allen doubled to left field. Obetts was next up and singled to center field, sending Allen home for the tournament winning run.

Interesting Facts
Davenport is 8-0 this season in games that have a score difference of one. The Panthers have not lost in extra innings this season, beating Madonna in eight innings today and nine innings on April, 12. The most staggering stat is that Davenport is a perfect 39-0 when scoring three or more runs this season.
