MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Davenport men's soccer team has found a budding star in junior
Brogan Shrimpton who has begun the season on a torrid pace scoring a hat trick for the second time this season in a 3-1 neutral site win over Alabama Huntsville on Sunday. The Panthers (3-1) took on a Charger team (1-3) that had played three straight top-20 teams to start their season and picked up a win in their last contest over No. 20 Florida Tech (2-1).
Shrimpton has now scored eight goals in the first four matches this season for Davenport and provided all the offense in this one. The Chargers were not outplayed on the stat sheet with a 10-8 edge in total shots. DU did register a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal and made the most of those chances. Shrimpton scored at 15:58 from
Yovany Duran on a header of a corner kick. Jordan Wright tied the game at 24:16 with his first of the season unassisted.
Shrimpton scored the game-winner at 33:02 from
Stephen Carroll on a deflected shot from outside the 18-yard box. He made it a two-goal cushion at 61:11 from
Carson Brinks as he threaded the needle and Shrimpton beat Myles Fullen to the right side of the net.
Aaron Orban made three saves in 90 minutes for the Panthers. Fullen made a pair of saves for Alabama Huntsville. The Panthers return home on Friday (Sept. 15) and will play their first GLIAC match against Ashland beginning at 7 p.m.
