GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport football team will face another big test on Saturday at noon when they welcome No. 20 Ashland to Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. It is Family Day and the Panthers and Eagles will be playing for the first time on the gridiron. Davenport will be looking to build off a strong second half from last Saturday at Northern Michigan. The Panthers were down 17-0 but forged a comeback with two fourth quarter scores to cut the deficit to 17-14. The Wildcats found the end zone themselves on a long touchdown run to finish off the 24-14 win. Ashland is fresh off an upset win at home against then No. 2 Ferris State last Saturday. The nationally featured game on ESPN3 saw the Eagle defense play spectacularly holding the Bulldog offense to three points in a 20-3 win improving them to 3-1, 2-0 in the GLIAC.

Quarterback/punter Travis Tarnowski was named GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for Ashland after nine punts averaging 31.6 yards. However, seven of those punts landed at or inside the 20-yard line setting up poor field position for Ferris State. The Panthers had several season-highs on offense at Northern Michigan. They had 40 rushes for 197 net yards and two scores on the ground. Freshman QB William James had season-highs with 88 rushing yards on 21 carries and his 10 completions tied Hunter Krause (Concordia) for most by a DU player this season. DU has made the most of their red zone chances this season going 3-for-4 with three TD's (2 rush, 1 pass). The opponent is 13-of-17 with nine TD's and four FG's.
