HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos started off the first half on the attack early, scoring in the third minute of play. During the rest of the half Davenport picked up the defense and only allowed one shot on goal during the next 42 minutes of play. The Panthers offense wasn't able to get many opportunities to score in the first half, a corner kick by
Roheema Bennett in the fourth minute was the only offensive stat for the half.
In the second half neither team was able to put the ball in the net. Davenport spent most of the half on defense. The Broncos recorded eight shots in the half, keeping freshman goal keeper
Lorrin McCarty busy during her first college start. The Panthers kept the game close throughout all 90 minutes, just were un-able to put pressure on the offensive side of the ball.
COACHES CORNER
"It was a very good tactical game" stated head coach
Chris Allen. "Cal Poly Pomona were a very strong team and this 100% reflects the big jump up in competition at the NCAA Dll level. It was a hard fought game and I felt we matched the Broncos at every turn. Although not happy to take a loss, I'm really happy with our teamwork and discipline. We've got a good gauge now of what to expect at this level, and will be looking to get our first NCAA win on Monday. We've gone through a lot of hard work already, and we have a lot of hard work in front of us. The team seems ready and excited for the challenge."
