MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Davenport men's soccer team played a complete match on Friday night at Auburn Montgomery in a 2-1 win over the Warhawks. The Panthers improved to 2-1 overall and got their first road win of the season. AUM still is looking for their first win of 2017 falling to 0-3.
The host Warhawks opened the Capital City Classic with a goal by Alexis Arriaga at 21:05 which would be their only shot on goal for the match. Davenport peppered the ball to the tune of 25 shots but they could not manage great accuracy with nine shots on goal.
The Panthers broke through at 39:24 as
Yovany Duran scored his first of the season from
Ryan Zietlow. The assist from Zietlow found an open Duran as he was streaking to the net and beat the keeper to the left side.
Brogan Shrimpton scored for the third straight match with his fifth tally at 44:24.
Noah Fetterolf came off the bench to get the assist on a cross inside the 18-yard box.
Auburn Montgomery was whistled for four yellow cards, two coming in each half. Stephen Ingram made seven saves for the Warhawks.
Aaron Orban did not need to make a save in net for the Panthers.
