Panthers sweep three opponents at DU STUNT Games

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University STUNT team opened the 2018 season on Sunday (Jan. 28) afternoon, participating in their own STUNT Games. The Panthers went 3-0 during the event, defeating University of Michigan Club (21-4) and Michigan State University (20-6) before the marquee matchup against Alma College. The Panthers won 18-12 in the rematch of last season's College STUNT Association Division II championship game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Panthers took on Michigan Club in the first match of the afternoon to kick-off the event. DU claimed a 21-4 victory with four points in each of the first three quarters. They then scored nine points in the fourth quarter compared to three for Michigan Club.
  • The second matchup came against Michigan State University after a break which saw four other games be completed. The Panthers strong first quarter gave them a 4-0 lead. The Spartans managed two points in the second quarter but DU was given all four points for an 8-2 advantage. The Panthers took a commanding 12-3 lead after the third quarter and closed out the game earning eight of a possible nine points in the fourth quarter for a 20-6 final score.
  • The highlighted match between Davenport and Alma was the final game of the day. Davenport outscored Alma 3-2 in the first two quarters for a 6-4 halftime lead. The Panthers earned all four points in the third quarter to setup a showdown in the final quarter with a 10-6 lead. DU scored eight points compared to six for the Scots for an 18-12 final tally.

The next STUNT competition for the Panthers will take place on Feb. 11 in East Lansing, Mich. Michigan State will be hosting their own STUNT Games beginning at noon.
