The Panthers played nationally ranked University of Michigan-Dearborn in a mini-series over the weekend and lost by one goal during both games. The first contest needed overtime and eventually a shootout to determine a winner, where the Wolverines won the shootout 1-0. In the second game, the Wolverines took a 6-5 win in regulation. Davenport played the Wolverines extremely tough during both games and outshot UM-Dearborn 80-58 over the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Davenport dominated the opening period, scoring two unanswered goals over 20 minutes of play.
Luke Cowan and
Walker Aurand scored the two DU goals. The Panthers went into the second period leading 2-0 on the road.
-The Wolverines shifted the momentum in the second period their way by scoring four goals. After UM-Dearborn scored the first goal of the period,
Sam Basich responded with a goal of his own to lift the Davenport lead back up to two goals. A trio of Wolverine goals boosted them into the lead 4-3 after two periods of play.
-The Panthers were down two goals early in the final period after the Wolverines scored 32 seconds into the period. Back to back goals in minute 13 and 14 evened the game at 5-5 each, forcing an overtime period.
-Neither team scored during the overtime period and shootout was needed to determine a winner. Davenport missed all three of their shootout attempts, while the Wolverines scored their first attempt and won the shootout 1-0.
-Five different Panthers scored in the game, Cowan, Aurand, Basich, Hulford and Corgan.
-Both
Joey Ogden and
Adam Goudelock assisted on two goals.

Jason Rhynold spent all 65 minutes in goal and stopped 24 of the 29 shots he faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Panthers opened on a strong note again in the first period. Davenport outscored the Wolverines 3-1 over the period and scored the initial goal of the game. Michael Gessler was credited with the first goal of the game and Basich followed that up 29 seconds later to give DU a 2-0 lead. After a goal by UMD, Cowan scored a goal with just over four minutes to go in the period to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead.
-The Wolverines scored four goals in the second period and Davenport countered with two of their own.
Alyx Fonseca scored on an unassisted effort in minute number three of the period and then the Wolverines scored three unanswered goals over a five-minute stretch.
Ian Thompson scored the final goal of the period to tie the game 5-5 heading into the third period.
-University of Michigan-Dearborn outscored Davenport 1-0 in the final period and won the game 6-5.
-Davenport had five different players score in the game, Gessler, Basich, Cowan, Fonseca and I. Thompson.
-Similar to the scoring, five different DU players had one assist, Cowan, Fonseca, I. Thompson,
Everett Thompson and Ogden.

Nate Ferris spent the whole game in net and had 22 saves.

UP NEXT
Davenport plays Calvin College this week in a mini-series. Thursday's game will be played in the Patterson Ice Center and Saturday's matchup will take place at Calvin.
