INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Davenport faced arguably their toughest opponent during the Midwest Regiona Crossover Tournament and stepped up to the plate. The Panthers defeated the Flyers of Lewis University in four sets. Davenport lost the first set and then turned things around with three straight set wins for the match victory. This is the first win during the season that the Panthers beat a ranked opponent.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-SET SCORES: 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-16
-The first set belonged to the Flyers. Lewis got off to an early lead when they scored five straight points to take a 6-2 lead. Davenport played the Flyers even for the remainder of the set, but Lewis held on for the set win.
-In the second set the Panthers turned things around in a hurry. With the score 11-9 in the Flyers favor, Davenport seven of the next eight points to take a 16-12 lead and shift momentum DU's way. The Panthers continued the pressure and closed out the set with a service error by Lewis for the 25-18 win, tying up the score 1-1 after two sets.
-Again, Davenport was outplaying the Flyers during the third set. The Panthers took a 15-9 lead after a kill by
Ashley VanderHorst, assisted by
Sami White. Davenport didn't give up the lead down the stretch and a kill by
Jenn Kay Vander Meer gave DU the set win and a 2-1 lead in sets.
-The Panthers were dominant in the final set, leaving no doubt that they were going to seal the deal. Davenport was huge at the net, getting blocks from
Hayley Kreiger,
Jessica Marvin, VanderHorst,
Megan Herr and Vander Meer. The match-winning point belonged to Herr on a kill.

UP NEXT
The Panthers will start up conference play against next weekend as they host Wayne State and Ashland. These will be the last two regular season home games for Davenport this season.
