Panthers drop third straight 2-1 decision

DU got a goal from Adis Guric his first of the season

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport men's soccer team dropped their third straight 2-1 decision on Friday night against Northwood in GLIAC action at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Panthers lost for the fifth straight time with four of those a 2-1 score and three of those coming in overtime. With tonight's loss the team will not qualify for the GLIAC Tournament after winning it last season.

Northwood moved into a three-way tie for fourth with the win and got on the board first in the 15th minute. Jack Doyle took advantage of a break as Lasse Pico Kjeldsen and Eric Riley collided going for the ball at the top of the box. Doyle made a long run after a pass from Andrew Behring and maneuvered his way into a look from 20 yards into an open net for his second of the season. Matt Whelan had a golden opportunity in the 36th minute to tie the game but his shot smacked off the right post through traffic.

Davenport really began to play on the attack going with the wind in the second half. The pressure paid off as Adis Guric tied the game in the 65th minute. Jake Van Schie played a high ball from right wing into the box and Brogan Shrimpton passed it directly to Guris who half-volleyed the ball to the lower left for his first of the season.

Nino Evola entered the game for Northwood in the 79th minute and that moved paid off as he scored in the 86th minute for the winner. Teddy Stacey assisted on Evola's third of the season with a through ball to the right wing and then a strike from 15 yards to the upper left corner. DU had a corner kick just over a minute later but could not get a shot. Each goalkeeper made four saves in the contest while NU held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
