UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Davenport men's soccer team was shutout for the third time this season in a 2-0 road loss at Saginaw Valley State on Friday. The Panthers did manage to record 15 total shots including five shots on goal.
Yovany Duran and
Matt Whelan had two shots on goal each and
Jake Van Schie recorded the other one.
SVSU picked up their seventh win of the season (7-1-3) and kept themselves in a first-place tie with Parkside in the GLIAC standings with 16 points. Davenport and Purdue Northwest are currently tied for fifth with six points in the league.
The Cardinals scored the winning goal in the 15th minute off the head of Michael Hamilton. Hamilton's third goal of the year was assisted by Alex Gloshen. The Cardinals added an insurance goal in the 60th minute as Brady Walker notched his second of the season with Gloshen getting another assist. Walker had a chip shot over
Eric Riley from 13 yards out. Riley did make five saves to tie a season-high. He has made five saves in each of his last three appearances in goal. Lukas Betz earned the clean sheet with five saves as well for SVSU.
