HOW IT HAPPENED
Davenport had an electric start offensively in the game, scoring two goals in the opening 21 minutes. The first goal belonged to
Roheema Bennett, assisted by
Katherine Steiner. Bennett received a pass from Steiner, took one dribble and hit what looked to be a pass with her left foot towards the far post, no one got a foot on the ball and it scooted past the goalie into the left corner for a goal. The score gave the Panthers a one-goal lead. Davenport continued with the offensive pressure and went up two goals with a score by
Alayna Hilgendorf. Steiner dribbled down the right sideline and sent a pass into the box, Hilgendorf was first to the ball and one-timed the soccer ball into the net. The goal put the Panthers up two goals just 21 minutes into the game. The Huskies cut into the lead late in the first half with a goal in the 39
th minute by Gabby Sgambati.
The second half neither team scored, but was a very physical 45 minutes of soccer. Davenport was given three yellow cards in the half, one each to
Alice Linsell,
Ashlyn Skidmore, and Bennett. The Panthers accomplished what they had to in the second half despite all the penalties, preserve the one-goal lead. Davenport wasn't able to score, but shut down the Huskie offense for the victory.
Up Next
Davenport has a difficult stretch next week as they take on Ashland University and Saginaw Valley State University, who are both ranked in the top 25 nationally.
