BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport prepped for arguably one of their most important matches in program history. The Panthers went up against the number one seed in the GLIAC
Tournament, Ferris State University. The Bulldogs came into the match 25-5 overall and the number six team in the country. Davenport took the Bulldogs to five sets the last time they played this season, but this time around was a different story. Ferris State defended their home court with a sweep of the Panthers. Davenport made things interesting down the stretch in the third set, but Ferris State maintained their composure to close out the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET SCORES: 20-25, 16-25, 22-25
Ferris State hit well in the first and second sets. In the first set the Bulldogs quickly built up a 14-8 lead after scoring four consecutive points. After building up the six-point lead Ferris State led by at least four points throughout the remainder of the set, eventually winning 25-20.
The Panthers were hanging tight with the Bulldogs in the second set through 20 points of play.
Sydney Tracer and
Jessica Marvin teamed up for a block assist to cut the Bulldogs lead down to one point. After the Panthers scored that point Ferris State scored seven of the next eight points, taking a 19-12 advantage. Ferris State ended the set scoring four straight to take a two-set lead over Davenport.
The third set seemed like it was going to go the same way as the second, with Ferris State leading 21-14. Davenport rattled off seven unanswered to points to tie the set at 21-21. The run forced the Bulldogs to take both of their timeouts. Coming out of the second timeout, Ferris State scored four of the next five points to win 25-22 and the match 3-0.

The loss closes the book on the Panthers 2018 season. Davenport finished 17-14 overall and made some noise in the GLIAC Tournament. The Panthers completed two upsets on their way to the GLIAC Championship match before falling to Ferris State University.
