TIFFIN, Ohio. – Davenport got the season started with the Tiffin Alumni Open at former GLIAC member Tiffin University. The Panthers only sent their sprinters and jumpers for this first meet of the year. Overall the team had a couple top five finishes on the day.
For the women
Jakara Edwards-House had the best finish in the 60-meter dash. She made it to the semifinals and ran the event in a time of 7.97 seconds. Freshman
Aleah Mixon had a good showing in her first collegiate meet, she ran the 200-meter dash in 26.89 seconds. Her solid time in the event gave her fourth place individually in the meet. In the jumping events
Emma Schafer,
Betsy Lovett,
Kelsey Graham, and
Chieme Udaku all finished in the top six in their events. Schafer took fourth in the high jump, successfully leaping 1.57m in her first attempt before missing 1.62m. In the pole vault Lovett took sixth by passing 3.42m on her third attempt. Graham took third in the long jump, recording a mark of 5.22m on her third attempt. Lastly, in the triple jump Udaku finished fourth with a mark of 10.81m.
On the men's side Obi Iwuagwa made it to the finals of the 60-meter dash. Iwuagwa ran the event in 7.06 seconds, taking sixth overall.
Romario Salmon and freshman
Colin Grady did well in the long jump. Salmon took second with a mark of 6.9m on his first attempt and Grady finished third with a mark of 6.8m on his fifth attempt.
The Panthers have just one meet left on their schedule for the month of December. Davenport will compete in the Grand Valley State Holiday Open on Friday, December 7 in Allendale.
