Panthers score a combined 19 goals during two wins over Rochester College

Davenport increased their win streak to four games after flexing their muscles offensively against the Warriors of Rochester College. The Panthers won 7-3 in the first game and 12-2 in the second game. The defense for DU proved themselves as well during the series, giving up only 50 shots on goal and five goals. Davenport hopes to continue this win streak through their mini-series vs. Kent State and into the GLCHL Playoffs.
 
Game 1 (Thursday, February 8)
Final Score: Davenport 7, Rochester College 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Tyler Layle scored the first goal of the game for Davenport. Layle scored 7:02 into the game to give DU a 1-0 lead, assisted by Joey Ogden and Michael Gessler. Roughly three minutes later Alex Hulford netted a goal to give DU an early two goal lead. Rochester snuck in a goal with under 45 seconds to play in the period to cut the Panthers lead down to 2-1 heading into the second period.
-Davenport opened up the flood gates in period number two. Hulford, Sam Basich, Alyx Fonseca and Luke Cowan all scored in the period. Basich and Fonseca scored within 14 seconds of each other, after Fonseca's goal DU led 5-1.
-The Warriors tried making a comeback in the final period, outscoring DU 2-1. However, it was too little too late for Rochester as the Panthers won the first game 7-3.
-Hulford scored two goals on the night to lead DU.
-In assists two players had two for DU, Chris Corgan and Luke Formica.
-Playing all 60 minutes in goal was Tanner Swift, who recorded 30 saves on the night.
 
Game 2 (Saturday, February 10)
Final Score: Davenport 12, Rochester College 2
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.
Records: Davenport 16-12, Rochester 3-24

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The game was back and forth during the first period of play. The Panthers scored the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead, scoring by Luke Cowan. Rochester responded with a goal in the 13th minute to tie the game 1-1. Hulford gave Davenport the lead back after he scored in the 18th minute, assisted by Wade Weisgerber and Chalmers McKeen.
-The Panthers scored five goals in the second period, boosting their lead up to 7-2 after 40 minutes of play. Cowan scored two goals in the period, giving him a hat trick on the night. Three other Panthers scored in the period, including Hulford who notched his second goal of the game.
-Davenport scored five more unanswered goals in the final period of play. Brad Reitter netter back to back goals in the period, and Cowan added his fourth goal of the game. All but one of the goals in the period had two different people credited with an assist.
-Cowan led the way with four goals on the night.
-Both Weisgerber and Ogden assisted on three different goals during the game.
-Jason Rhynold saw limited action in net during his 60 minutes of play, he stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced.
 
UP NEXT
Davenport only has one mini-series left on their regular season schedule. The Panthers host Kent State University on February 16 and 17 for a mini-series.
