Panthers win wild one 10-9 at Embry-Riddle

James Rogers earned his first save as a Panther in 3 1/3 inning outing

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The wild affair between Davenport and Embry-Riddle on Monday went to the Panthers 10-9 as they improve to 3-2 overall. The Eagles and Panthers combined for 24 hits against a total of eight pitchers. In the end, it was James Rogers who provided stability out of the bullpen for DU. He threw the final 3.1 innings and allowed just two hits with six strikeouts to earn his first save as a Panther.

Krystien Johnson-Battilana got the start for Davenport and lasted 5.1 innings. He navigated through the lineup long enough to be able to get credit for the win because his teammates gave him tremendous run support. Sam Brunnig started for Embry-Riddle and was removed after 3.1 innings. He allowed seven hits and five runs with three strikeouts.

Davenport trailed 4-0 after three innings but battled back to score five runs in the fourth. They took a 10-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Eagles scored five times to make it a game. Aidan Brady and Dominic Jeancola kept their team in the game out of the bullpen for Embry-Riddle. Brady lasted 2.2 innings and allowed one hit with three strikeouts.

All nine batters for the Panthers had a hit. Austin Petravicius and Alex Huard had three of those hits. Petravicius went 3-for-4 with a run, RBI, walk and stolen base. Huard scored two runs and had his first triple of the season. Brian Sobieski hit his second homer of the season and collected three RBI. Jacob Buchberger collected his first triple of the season and scored two runs.

The Panthers will get back to the diamond tomorrow at Eckerd College (5-6) for a 6 p.m. first pitch in St. Petersburg.
