Panthers eliminated from GLIAC Tournament by Ashland

The team concludes the season with an 8-20 record

ASHLAND, Ohio – The third meeting between Davenport and Ashland in women's basketball finished much like the first two with the No. 1 Eagles running away with a win. In the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday, Ashland defeated the Panthers 88-39.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Ashland got off on a solid note by leading 23-8 after the first quarter. Davenport shot 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from the floor while the Eagles were 8-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. DU trailed 4-2 at the 7:35 mark and 6-4 at the 6:25 mark, when the Eagles began to increased their lead up to 16-8 at the 2:36 mark after a Maddie Dackin three-pointer. Ashland scored the final seven points of the quarter after that baskey by Dackin for a 15-point lead after 10 minutes. Ashland had 12 of their points in the paint and scored eight points off turnovers.
-The lead hovered from 11 to 15 points in the second quarter for the first five minutes. Ashland then again made a push and stretched their lead to 41-19 at halftime. The Eagles scored seven more points off turnovers in the second quarter while Davenport had none.
-The lead grew in the third quarter to over 30 points at 54-23 with 4:53 left in the quarter and never went under 30 for the rest of the game. Ashland got 19 points off their bench in the fourth quarter alone and had eight second-chance points.

INSIDE THE BOX
-The last meeting saw Davenport really score the ball to the tune of 85 points, a season high, but Ashland's defense picked it up in the third meeting. Davenport shot 25.4 percent for the game (16-of-63) and for the second straight game made just one three-pointer. DU did own a 48-45 edge on the boards with 15 offensive rebounds.
-The Panthers went the final 4:19 of the game without a field goal. Ashland had a 48-22 advantage on points in the paint and 17-2 on the fast break. The Eagles made 17-of-22 at the free throw line and were 7-of-17 behind the arc.
-Senior Emily Severn led the team with 12 points in her last game. She finishes with 978 career points and made 182 three-pointers to rank seventh in school history.
-Senior Hannah Wilkerson scored two points and grabbed three rebounds in her final game. She finishes with 516 points, 132 assists and 60 steals in her career.
-Jenna Falkenberg returned after missing the last two games and scored six points while grabbing six rebounds. Haley Gibbons also snagged six boards and blocked two shots.
