CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Panthers hosted their second GLIAC team this week and split the doubleheader 1-1 against Saginaw Valley State. Both games were one sided, Davenport took the first 8-0 and then the Cardinals took the second 9-0. The pitchers for both teams shined in their wins.
Mallory Teunissen gave up only one hit and struck out 10 in her six inning shutout in game one, while Conard (for SVSU) gave up only two hits and walked three in her six inning shutout in game two. Not only did Teunissen pitch well in game one, the Panthers offense also showed up. Davenport notched 10 hits for eight runs in the game, including two doubles and a home run.

Davenport was dominant in game one. The Panthers scored one run in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, then scored five to end the game in the bottom of the sixth. In the first inning Flores drove in the eventual game-winning run. She hit a single to center field that scored Pauley. Later in the fourth inning Flores then hit a solo homer to right field to give DU a two-run lead. The third run was scored by Crawford, who advanced home after a wild pitch by the Cardinals. Davenport exploded in the bottom of the sixth for five runs to end the game. Koza opened up the scoring in the inning with a single up the middle that scored
Madison Jewell and Griffin. Then, three runs were scored after Rowe singled scoring Jewell, followed up by Koza and Rowe advancing home after a throwing error by the Cardinals. The three runs in one at bat ended the game due to the mercy rule, which is if a team is up by eight runs after five innings the game ends. Teunissen had a perfect game going up until the final out of the top of the sixth inning. She ended the game with 10 strikeouts and only gave up one single to the Cardinals.

The Panthers booming offense was silenced during game two against the Cardinals. Davenport was held to two hits and threw walks offensively, while no runners for DU advanced passed first base. On the flip side, Saginaw Valley State got things rolling on offense. The Cardinals recorded 15 hits for nine runs in game two, which ended after six innings due to the mercy rule.
