Panthers go 6-0 at Oklahoma City STUNT Games

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - It was a busy weekend for the STUNT program as they posted a 6-0 record at the Oklahoma City University STUNT Games. It was a chance to play against several teams from the Southwest and gear up towards the STUNT national championship to be held in April in East Lansing at Jenison Fieldhouse.

Davenport vs University of Oklahoma (11-0)

The Panthers scored four points in each of the first two quarters and add three more in the third quarter. The Sooners then decided to forfeit the remainder of the match as a mercy rule. If there is ever an 11-point differential the coach with the deficit can make the decision on whether to continue with the game.

Davenport vs Oklahoma Baptist University (21-13)

This matchup proved to be very competitive. The Panthers and Bison are both strong teams who frequently are visitors in the STUNT nationals in Division II. The Panthers achieved a perfect score of 21 in this head-to-head battle. They scored four points in the first three quarters and finished with nine points in the fourth quarter. OBU progressively improved with one point in the first quarter, two in the second quarter and three in the third quarter. The Bison also finished with seven points in the final quarter.

Davenport vs University of New Mexico (21-1)

The Panthers posted another perfect score against a startup program in the Lobos. The first three quarters again saw four points in each for Davenport. New Mexico scored one point in the final quarter compared to nine for the Panthers.

Davenport vs Texas Tech University (21-9)

For the third straight match, DU achieved a perfect score. This time it came against STUNT Division I qualifier in Texas Tech. The score was 4-1 in each of the first three quarters for a 12-3 lead. The Red Raiders scored six points in the fourth quarter.

Davenport vs Oklahoma State University (19-12)

This matchup was highly anticipated as it pitted the reigning STUNT national champions. Oklahoma State won the Division I crown last year while Davenport was victorious in Division II. The Panthers made an early statement with a 4-0 edge in the first quarter of stunts. The second quarter of pyramids and tosses saw a one-point advantage go to DU and an 8-3 lead. The third quarter of jumps and tumbling proved interesting. Head Coach Celia Allen-Hames called a challenge when the result was made a tie. It was reversed after further evaluation from judges and the call point went to the Panthers. In the fourth quarter, Davenport scored seven points compared to five for the Cowboys.

Davenport vs University of Central Oklahoma (21-8)

There was no letdown after the emotional win over Oklahoma State as the Panthers cruised to a win over a seasoned Central Oklahoma squad. The team had yet another perfect score in the game. A key moment occurred in the second quarter. A challenge was made after initial tie call which gave the Bronchos the point. Coach Allen-Hames then challenged that call and upon offficial review it was reversed back to a tie.

"This trip was incredible. This tournament was incredible. This team is incredible. Out of the 116 routines played, the Panthers only gave up two points in the entire tournament. A perfect score in STUNT is 21 - our goal for the weekend was to aim for 'our perfect game'. I am so proud of this team and their dedication to our program's culture. We end the STUNT regular season 14-1 and are ready and hopeful to take on STUNT Nationals which will be held at Michigan State University at the end of April. The first round of STUNT polls should be released in the next week. For now, we shift our focus to NCA Nationals!" - Head Coach Celia Allen-Hames
