KENOSHA, Wis. - The Davenport men's soccer team were in need of a signature win to hopefully kick-start the remainder of the season. It came on Sunday at Wisconsin-Parkside with a resounding 4-1 win over the newcomers to the GLIAC. Parkside entered the match without a loss in the league, but Davenport took it to them in the first half and built a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Brogan Shrimpton got things going in the 14th minute on a header in the box after a brilliant cross from
Matt Whelan. Shrimpton added another goal in the 32nd minute for his sixth goal of the season. It was a deflection off the keeper that saw the back of the net in close.
Miguel Flores made it 3-0 in the 44th minute with an assist from
Evan Marquess. Flores ran to the ball after a cross and finished near 10 yards to the right side of the net. Marquess then assisted on the final goal scored by Whelan in the 72nd minute. Marquess took a corner kick and Whelan finished in close. Parkside avoided the shutout as Jack Krenzien scored in the 88th minute off a corner kick by Leki Prpa.
"Today the guys came and played DU soccer and I was impressed how we approached our opponent tactically," said head coach
Chris Hughes. "Parkside has a very good team and is well coached. Brogan and Daire along with many others were outstanding. We will take the three points and now prepare for Purdue Northwest."
