Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Opportunities there but just missed in 1-0 loss to Parkside

DU had 10 shots on goal but were shutout for the second straight game

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport men's soccer team battled with Parkside on Monday afternoon in a battle for first place in the GLIAC. The Panthers outplayed the Rangers but could not find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss. Davenport is now 5-5 overall and 5-2 in the conference while Parkside is now 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC.

COACHES CORNER - CHRIS HUGHES
"The GLIAC is a competitive league and all teams need to take advantage of their opportunities during games. Despite our squad having many great chances to score, Parkside did find the back of our net in the second half. We will play them again in a couple weeks and hope for better result. We now move to Northwood preparations for Friday."

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Davenport totaled 22 shots compared to 10 for the Rangers. The Panthers also had 10 shots on goal to just three for Parkside. DU totaled 11 shots in each half and Juan Gonzalez made five saves in each half for the Rangers.
- The game saw lots of physical play and Parkside had three yellow and one red card. Davenport had four yellow cards in the match.
- Whelan had the game's first really good chance to score but Gonzalez made a nice save in the 19th minute. Miguel Flores and Daire O'Riordan also had quality looks in the first half but could not score. Lasse Pico Kjeldsen off a corner kick in the 20th minute headed a ball strongly but Gonzalez made the save.
- Parkside picked up the pace in the second half as Nikola Kesich nearly made it 1-0 if not for a great save by Joshua Doupe. He dove for the ball and got just enough of it to deflect it off the post and keep it scoreless.
- Whelan made a run in the 66th minute but his header just went high.
- The Rangers got the lone goal in transition in the 69th minute as Dejan Rokvic carried the ball down the middle of the field and put a through ball to Jack Mittelsteadt. He raced to it and scored his fifth of the season from 10 yards to the lower right corner.
- Davenport had more chances to tie the game in the final 20 minutes with four shots on goal. Jake Van Schie had a header to the left post in the 71st minute but Gonzalez spread out to make the save.
